Measurement within the Digester was not possible so far, due to the environmental conditions. So far, any information about e.g. the water content of chips in the digester was a calculation based on external measurements plus some assumptions. As a result, the values used were often not very accurate and difficult to use for plant automation.
APOS and ANDRITZ, combining their expertises, started a development process in 2018. The joint team developed the ultimate alternative to the formerly used rough estimates on moisture content within the refiner.
Now, moisture content of the chips/particles in the digester or plug screw can be measured at high accuracy. Also, the ratio of soft to hardwood is measured to
- optimize the dryer by having the moisture values as early in the process as possible,
- reduce your production costs (electrical energy, steam costs, costs for gluing and drying, costs for wear parts,…
- achieve highest possible production rates / increased line speeds – speeded up production.
